Mission Statement

The Mission of the Delaware Municipal Court, Probation Division/Office of Community Control, is to effectively and efficiently supervise and monitor all persons placed under its control by the Court, to insure accountability and compliance with all Court orders and conditions of probation. To enforce the orders of the Court in a fair and impartial manner as to provide an element of public safety in the community. To provide those persons using the Court with timely and appropriate service.

Purpose

The Probation Division/Office of Community Control is responsible for supervising and monitoring all persons placed under its control by the Court with the ultimate goal being to rehabilitate the offender. To safely and efficiently supervise offenders placed on probation and enforce other Court orders as directed, and perform other assigned tasks.

The Probation Division/Office of Community Control of the Delaware Municipal Court operates during normal Court hours. The Probation Division/Office of Community Control is located on the second floor of the Justice Center, and is handicap accessible. If there is an emergency after normal Court hours, contact may be made by calling the Delaware Police Department at (740) 203-1111. Advise the dispatcher of the nature of the emergency, the probation/community control officer you need to contact, your name, and a number where you can be reached.

The Office of Community Control is staffed by five (5) Community Control Officers, the Chief of Community Control, and an office assistant. The phone number for the Office of Community Control is (740) 203-1525 or (740) 203-1526, Fax: (740) 203-1549.

The Probation Division/Office of Community Control provides supervision of offenders at various levels of intensity as ordered by the Court or as otherwise deemed appropriate for the offender and the safety of the community. The probation/community control officer’s challenge is to see that the offender participates in all required treatment/education programs, refrains from criminal behavior, and addresses all orders of the Court in a responsible and conscientious manner. Probation/Community Control protects the community, and also gives the offender the opportunity of correcting behavior that is harmful to society.

Other sanctions implemented and supervised by the Probation Division/Office of Community Control are: community service (as part of sentence or in lieu of fines), electronically monitored house arrest, ignition interlock, pre-sentence investigations, expungement investigations, restitution, and referral to community based mental health, alcohol/drug services, and other social service delivery systems as needed and/or as ordered.
