The project will relieve congestion and increase safety along U.S. 36 and Ohio 37 by increasing the number of lanes beneath the Norfolk Southern Railroad bridge. Other benefits:

• Multi-use path on the north side of 36/37 extending to the Ohio 521 intersection and sidewalk along the north side of 36/37 extending east to Bowtown Road
• Dual approach lanes west of the bridge will allow more traffic through the signal on each green light
• Intersection improvements at Bowtown Road and at Ohio 521, including additional turn lanes
• Improvements to water mains, storm sewers, street lighting and landscaping

The Ohio Department of Transportation is managing the project and awarded a construction contract to Shelly & Sands. The completion date is fall 2025. The total project cost is $44,360,000

Specific traffic impacts will be announced as construction progresses. In general, two-way traffic on 36/37 will be maintained without flaggers or detours, with exceptions.

Traffic Impact Bulletin: October 2023

In November 2023, eastbound 36/37 travel lanes will be shifted north, between the railroad bridge to just east of the Ohio 521 intersection.  View the map. This will continue through May 2024.  During this phase:

• EB traffic will be directed to the north half of the median starting just east of the railroad bridge and will crossover the median back to its normal configuration just east of Ohio 521 intersection
• One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained
• EB and WB left turns will be maintained at SR 521
• Property access will be maintained; however left turns (in and out) may be restricted
• Access to Sheetz will be off Mill Run Crossing only

The Point Improvement project  will take about 2 1/2 years to complete.
