Delaware County, Main Street Delaware, the City of Delaware and property owners are working together to identify areas for protection, preservation and enhancement, and areas in need of comprehensive redevelopment. This should include integrating historic preservation of significant buildings and features with revitalization of neighborhood-scale commercial space, entertainment venues and open space. It also should encourage enhanced pedestrian and bicycle connections between the eastern and western portions of downtown over the river.
City of Delaware Leadership and Staff
With the Delaware region evolving, City Leadership recognized an opportunity to evaluate current conditions and create a framework that supports the desired future for Downtown Delaware. City Staff were integral in the planning process and assisted with outreach and engagement efforts to involve members of the public and local business community.
Steering and Taskforce Committee
Many different perspectives were brought together at the steering and taskforce committee meetings, which broadened the conversation about Downtown Delaware and contributed to a more comprehensive plan. The participants included members from local government, Main Street Delaware, Delaware County, developers, and other downtown stakeholders.
Community Survey
The public was invited to participate in an online survey, which resulted in over 1000 responses. The feedback was important in understanding how community members view Downtown Delaware and helped refine the direction of this Plan.
